In light of yesterday’s announcement of the death sentence against Jamshid Sharmahd, I have had the chargé d’affaires at the Iranian Embassy summoned. He was told that we do not accept this grave violation of the rights of a German national. As a consequence, the German Government has declared two members of the Iranian Embassy personae non gratae and asked them to leave Germany at short notice. We call on Iran to rescind the death sentence against Jamshid Sharmahd and to allow him a fair appeal in line with the principles of the rule of law.
