The eastern part of Aleppo has been almost completely cut off from the outside world for several days now. The districts held by the opposition can only be reached at risk of life, as the Syrian army is blocking the access routes.

The images from Aleppo show how urgently a return to the political process is needed. This is why we are continuing our intensive endeavours to ensure that the peace talks in Geneva are resumed as soon as possible. Above all, it must now urgently be ensured that humanitarian aid can reach all districts in Aleppo, including those held by the opposition.
