Together with our French partners in the Normandy format, the Federal Government condemns the publication of a Russian decree aiming to make it easier for citizens resident in the Ukrainian oblasts of Luhansk and Donetsk to gain Russian citizenship.
These regions, just like the entire Donbass, are part of Ukrainian territory. Making it easier for the Ukrainian citizens living there to acquire Russian citizenship runs contrary to the aims and spirit of the Minsk agreements. It is the opposite of the contribution to descalation so urgently needed at this time.
