Joint Press Release: First Bilateral Political Consultations between the Republic of Mauritius and the Federal Republic of Germany held in Berlin

On Thursday, 9 November 2023, the first Bilateral Political Consultations between the Republic of Mauritius and the Federal Republic of Germany were held at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.

The meeting was co-chaired by Ambassador Christoph Retzlaff, Director for Sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel at the Federal Foreign Office, and Mr Joyker Nayeck, Secretary for Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius. The Mauritian delegation also met with Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office Ms Katja Keul.

During the one-day meeting, representatives from both Foreign Ministries exchanged on various topics relating to bilateral, regional and multilateral issues. Discussions focused on climate change and renewable energy, tourism, creative industries, financial services, maritime security as well as cooperation in the health, youth exchange and educational sectors.

Mauritius and Germany appreciated the opportunity to hold political consultations. “Today’s first bilateral consultations have been an excellent opportunity to explore potential for cooperation and further deepen our friendly relations”, said Minister of State Katja Keul. The Bilateral Consultation Mechanism was agreed on in March 2021 between the two Foreign Ministries.
