05.12.2020 - Press release

A Federal Foreign Office spokesperson commented as follows today (5 December) on the statement by the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah announcing that the Gulf states had had fruitful discussions, mediated by Kuwait and the United States, on resolving the Qatar crisis:

We welcome the announcement by the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nasser
Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah stating that following the talks mediated by Kuwait and the United States, both sides are prepared to move towards agreement in the crisis between Qatar and three other member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council. We have always supported the Kuwaiti mediation efforts initiated by the deceased Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and continued by the current Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. A resolution of the crisis would enhance the lives of people in the Gulf states and would have a positive impact on stability in the region. We thank the Kuwaiti and American Governments for their mediation efforts. We and our EU partners will continue to support this process.
