Minister of State Lindner travelling to Lithuania

20.12.2021 - Press release

Minister of State Tobias Lindner is travelling to Lithuania following his official visit to Ukraine. On 20 and 21 December, he will thus conduct further talks on the security situation in the region. His programme includes meetings with Deputy Foreign Minister Egidijus Meilūnas and the chairman of the Lithuanian Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Defence, Laurynas Kasčiūnas. He will also visit the Bundeswehr contingent in Rukla together with German Chief of Defence Eberhard Zorn.

In addition, Minister of State Lindner will have talks with the Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who has been granted political asylum in Lithuania, on the situation in Belarus.
The visit will conclude with talks with the Lithuanian Ambassador, having returned from Beijing.

Ahead of his departure for Lithuania, Minister of State Lindner stressed:

My visit to Lithuania demonstrates our friendship, support and solidarity with Lithuania as one of our closest partners and allies in Europe. The personal exchange with our German soldiers on the ground within the framework of NATO's 'Enhanced Forward Presence' is therefore particularly important to me. My first meeting as Minister of State with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who is to be awarded the renowned Charlemagne Prize for 2022, underscores the fact that we continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the entire Belarusian opposition in its fight for freedom, democracy and human rights in Europe.“
