European scholars and those working in the European Union are invited to submit their social science research papers for the Henrik Enderlein Prize. The research prize in memory of the Hertie School’s late President is aimed at early career researchers under the age of 40 whose work exhibits scholarly excellence and a practical contribution to public debate on the future of Europe. The Henrik Enderlein prize is jointly awarded by the Hertie School, Sciences Po, the German Federal Foreign Office and the French Ministry for European and Foreign Affairs. The winner will be chosen by an international jury.

Showcasing the powerful impact of academic research

“In honour of the late Hertie School President Henrik Enderlein, we are looking forward to social science contributions which set an example for a strong, peaceful and forward-thinking Europe. Together with our Franco-German partners we want to showcase the powerful impact of research which addresses issues that not only drive academia, but also engage policymakers and civil society in Europe”, says Hertie School President and President of the jury Cornelia Woll.

“The prize recognises the value of original ideas and research that are both judged as excellent within the scientific community and relevant for public affairs and social cohesion in Europe”, adds Jean Pisani-Ferry, professor of economics affiliated with both universities and closely involved in the creation of the prize.

An international social science jury

A high-calibre jury brings together experts from different disciplines and fields in the social sciences: Jean Pisani-Ferry, Professor of Economics at the European University Institute; Dorit Geva, Professor of Sociology at Central European University; Sergei Guriev, Professor of Economics and Provost of Sciences Po; Thurid Husted, Professor of Public Administration at the Hertie School; Jakob Vogel, Professor of History and Director of the Centre Marc Bloch; Cornelia Woll, Professor of International Political Economy and President of the Hertie School, as well as Leonor Guy from the German Federal Foreign Office and Dimo Böhme from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

About the Henrik Enderlein Prize

The Henrik Enderlein Prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, is awarded to early career social scientists under the age of 40. The work of the awardees demonstrates academic excellence and makes a distinct contribution to the public debate on the future of Europe. The Henrik Enderlein Prize is named in honour of the late president of the Hertie School, who was a strong advocate for Europe. Initial awardees were Stefanie Stantcheva, Professor of Political Economy at Harvard University, and Tarik Abou-Chadi, Associate Professor in European Union and Comparative Politics at Oxford University.
